Sustainable new look for Scottish textiles with launch of £2m fund

Zero Waste Scotland and the Scottish Government have launched a new £2m fund to help reduce the environmental burden of textiles. The Circular Textiles Fund will go directly to businesses across the textiles industry in Scotland, from fashion to upholstery.

A kind-hearted Glasgow taxi driver provided even more cheer this week for the school pupil he took on this year’s famous trip to Troon – dropping off chocolates and a trophy to the thrilled youngster. Matt McLetchie, from Bearsden, was the nominated taxi driver for Kelbourne Park School’s Caitlin McFadden when the 75th annual trip from Glasgow to Troon took place last Wednesday.
Universities are beacon of economic promise

There are moments when your inadequacies are laid out firmly before you and there is no alternative but to admit defeat. Listening to a researcher in the University of Glasgow’s quantum and nano technology team explain his technique for squeezing light was one such moment. I have no doubt he was making best efforts to reach down to my level but we simply didn’t have the time to bridge the gulf in understanding.
Glasgow deserves to be a Freeport

Last week Glasgow Chamber of Commerce along with other local Chambers in the west of Scotland supported the Clyde Green Freeport bid which has been officially announced. Two Scottish regions will be selected, and the designated areas will benefit from tax reliefs, simplified customs procedures, streamlined planning processes to boost redevelopment, and government support to promote regeneration and innovation.
